What about Nintendo Video Games?
To trim their holiday budgets this year, many Americans are finding ways, but there are reports showing that buying Nintendo video games is one place consumers are not cutting back.
U.S. retail sales of Nintendo video games, according to market researcher NPD Group, a 10 percent jump from a year ago, totaled $2.91 billion in November. Overall sales this year 2008 through November are up 22 percent from 2007, that is more than $16 billion.
An analyst from NPD, Anita Frazier, cites the industry’s wide content variety on newer consoles generation such as Nintendo DS video games, Nintendo 64 video game, Super Nintendo video games, Nintendo Gamecube video games, Nintendo Wii viedo games, Nintendo Lite, Sony’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft’s XBOX 360 as a reason for the strong performance. Frazier also says that Nintendo video games are form of entertainment that a relatively cheap, considering the hours of value they provide.
Here senior editor at Game Informer magazine, Matt Helgeson, also agrees. ” To complete Nintendo video games can take between 10 and 40 hours, sometimes 50 hours” depending on the title. “Gamers can often get two to three months out of one game”, Helgeson said.
Those some of the top-selling game titles, according to NPD, in November include “Gears of War 2,” which sold 1.6 million copies, and “Call of Duty: World at War,” which sold 1.4 million. Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo’s “Wii Fit” and “Wii Play” put up impressive numbers, as well.
