Nintendo has launch the New Wii Video

nintendo wii videovideo for wii
Since the Nintendo Wii video games was released, Nintendo has been ruling the sales charts and the Nintendo DS Lite isn’t exactly doing poorly worldwide. It isn’t just good for games in having those tens of millions of systems in the consumers homes, and surely Nintendo looking for ways to monetize its white boxes. So, what the next step in Japan? Here a downloadable Wii video.

Nintendo has announced a partnership with Japanese company Dentsu, the company purchased Pioneer LDC in 2003, to distribute original streaming Wii video programming with a 2009 launch confirmed in Japan, and an eye towards a later Western launch. That Pioneer LDC has a piece of, you can see that this isn’t a company that simply dabbled in anime; these are impressive properties. A Dentsu?s spokesman claimed that it will be creating new content for the Wii video download service, but the possibility of leveraging properties such as Ghost in the Shell, Bleach and even F-Zero Falcon Desetsu and include some ad-supported but free videos, and some pay-to-watch videos, that is an intriguing one.

The Wii Play Video will get its own video distribution service next year 2009. It will take a different approach than the ones Microsoft and Sony pursued on their respective consoles. Nintendo plans to offer cartoons and “mainly family-oriented programming” options created especially for the Wii Video Service. In Japan, the Wii Video Service will be launched in the Spring with the program expanding worldwide later.

For this expansion possibility Wii Video System for some time, analysts have been discussing from The Diffusion Group, noted: “In order for the Wii to remain competitive in the long-term, Nintendo must enable Wii Video Services of some kind.” Interestingly, Nintendo is allowing multiple approaches to the problem, with Japanese firm Fujisoft already launching Minna-no Theater Wii (Everyone’s Theater for Wii) in Japan for Wii Ware on January 27th. This pay-per-view service “enables people to enjoy video content any time at home by Wii video streaming playback,” and will cost 100 to 400 Wii points ($1 to $4) per video. However, it appears that the Nintendo and Dentsu partnership may be the higher profile one.

What next with Wii Video?

At least there is one large issue Nintendo will face if it hopes to get into the Wii video digital distribution game: the system lacks any kind of dedicated storage large enough to hold the purchased or rented video. SD cards are an inconvenience at best, and rumors of an add-on hard drive have yet to turn into anything other than vapor. In the past, as the console is the only system currently on the market, the company has all but ignored the media potential of the Nintendo Wii, that can’t even play a bog-standard DVD.

Nintendo has flirted with video before, selling episodes of popular cartoons on GBA cartridges years ago, but it seemed that product flew into bargain bins almost immediately. At this point, it’s not clear whether the new content will even do well in Japan, much less make appearances in other. The Nintendo Dsi video games has also become a big seller in Japan, which means that any kind of Wii video download service could also be used to add video content to the company’s SD card-equipped portable. In front of many eyes, nintendo has put lots of hardware, but it will be challenging to use this installed base to sell Video for Wii.
